As someone who works at a large leadership institute, the takeaways of this post are rich — particularly in the transformative moment we're experiencing with AI. "Create a safe space for learning" ... it seems obvious but only the great leaders know how to actually get it done. Tks for this post.
Epic game. I'd recommend the post-game press conference too, some real nuggets in there. Jack joking with Coach Sullivan about facing McDavid in OT. And Quinn said at one point, "When I looked around the room before overtime, there's probably 3 or 4 guys I look at and I'm like, that guy's not nervous, he wants to be that guy, and I felt that way about Jack, and I felt that way about Austin of course." You can hear the culture you're describing in how they talk about each other.
I may be a pissed off Canadian, but come on. The real lesson is that sometimes you lose because the bounces don't go your way or the refs can't count to six (obviously Canada didn't lose because of the refs, but seriously, it's the most cut and dried penalty there is).
It was pre written. I had a skeleton of it done yesterday. I’ve been following Mike Sullivan’s coaching career for a while as Penguins fan. And have lots of great quotes from him, as he’s also featured in one of my favorite sports psychology books by Len Zaichkowsky.
Then during the game I added context and started to shape it so it was pretty much done. Just needed the right outcome. Then I added in post game quotes after it was written.
I disagree if Canada had won you had nothing. Sure to most it would be a piece not worth reading because the US lost. Those of us that really understand what's going on know it's more than about just winning and losing. Those of us focused on more than that know that this story where the US did win will quickly fade and lose its luster far quicker than the moments that created it. Glad you wrote it and glad the US won though. 😉

Rocky was behind on all the scorecards, but rallied to beat Drago and end The Cold War.
Thank you.

Genuine question: Was this pre-written, were you writing during the game, etc.? You pumped this out FAST 🙏😂

If Canada won…well I had nothing haha.
Solid strategy. It was a great read! I was like, “damn this guy writes quickly!” And, Go Pens!
