Great analysis. The Rams riskier strategy did not work out for them.

Here it is the Friday morning after, and you were spot on.

Hi, reading this after having travelled 17 hours door-to-door from Devon to Orlando. The flight was 'only' 8 hours 25 minutes. It's all the extras that are tiring: queueing, driving, walking around a hot, crowded airport, waiting for your bag, trying to clear US immigration, waiting for Uber. The Rams' players may not have to do that, but it all adds up.

I am here until Friday, then fly back to UK overnight. I then have to fly to Athens on Thursday, and am competing in the World Masters on Saturday morning.

It's less than ideal, but welcome to the world of the amateur, but dedicated, athlete!

I tried to mitigate some effects by drinking electrolytes on the plane and avoiding the 'snacks' and desserts (got to make weight). I also wore compression socks.

I find that walking is the best way to overcome jet lag: mooching around is good for the circulation and for the mind. I also don't eat on landing, because it's extra calories.

My plan is to try and go to bed as early as possible and get up at about 0400 every day here, so as not to adjust totally. I'm also lifting today (light) and then Thursday, plus some movement sessions and recovery in the pool.

My main concern is getting ill! The overall fatigue hammers your immune system.

It’s probably not enough time to adapt, BUT if they hydrated well enough could sleeping at equivalent 7,000’ give them some altitude training essentially??

Unfortunately not enough time to make any positive changes. Just enough time to experience some fatigue and disturbed sleep though.

Makes sense. Such a cool natural experiment! Would be amazing to see their HR/lactate numbers during the game. Unfortunately there’s so much “chaos” in football that it’ll be messy making inferences about their performances given the results of the game. Chances are someone on the 49ers gets injured hahaha.

They are insane! This at least seems like an absolutely crazy idea in my head haahhahah. The pure change in environment has to take more time than 24 hours to get ready for an all out NFL game.

Haha, I mean it's a bold move. I don't think I would have done it. But it'll be fun to see what happens!
