No hacks. No gurus. Just how excellence actually works.
My goal here is simple: In a world obsessed with the surface level, this is a place to go deep on performance, mastery, and what it takes to actually be great.
I believe that performance is performance. That whether you’re an athlete or artist or business executive, the underlying ingredients and tools transcend. We all have to learn to handle stress, to lead better, and navigate discomfort and uncertainty. We all need to do hard (meaningful) things.
I’m going to give you the real version of getting better. Backed by science, not bro-science. Or as I like to call it, performance, stripped of the marketing BS.
Who am I?
I’m an expert on performance. I’ve written five books, including the international bestseller Do Hard Things, that have collectively sold more than a million copies.
I got my start in running, as a phenom who ran a 4:01 mile in high school. After that I spent fifteen years coaching college and professional runners, having worked with athletes who’ve finished top 10 at the Boston, NYC, Chicago, and World Championship marathons. More recently, I’ve served as a performance coach working with Olympians, athletes from every professional sports league, the U.S. military, and veteran actors.
I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Houston and a graduate degree from George Mason University. And was recently named the George Mason College of Education and Human Development Alumni of the Year. His academic career began exploring exercise physiology, before later going back to school to understand mental performance. This shapes my holistic and all-encompassing look at performance.
